Small Bedroom Decor: 6 Tips for Success

A small bedroom can be challenging to decorate. Know how you can transform your small space into a cozy and welcoming bedroom.

Have a small bedroom and aren’t sure how to get the most out of your space? Does your bedroom need to multitask as a home office, library and storage room as well? Although our bedrooms really only need a bed, very often we are forced to fit a desk, dresser, chairs, or other furniture in this room as well. If you’re trying to sort out how to decorate and furnish your small bedroom we have some great tips for you!

1. Make your nightstand work overtime

Most bedrooms benefit from having a nightstand next to the bed. You might only have room for one nightstand but ideally you can have two. Traditionally the top of the nightstand is about the same height or slightly higher than the mattress – this makes it easier to reach things while lying in bed. Of course, in a small bedroom you’ll need to consider how you need to use your nightstand. For example, you might want your nightstand to actually be a desk, or you may need your nightstand to function as a dresser.

Purchase a piece of furniture that allows you to do the most: make sure there are drawers to hide things, a sturdy surface, and that you can get what you need during the night. Measure the maximum amount of space you have to work with and remember that if you need two nightstands they don’t have to be identical. Your room might look best with a low dresser on one side of the bed and a desk on the other. Just use as much room as possible and purchase functional pieces.

2. Organize everything

Small spaces do better with excellent organization. This might mean paring down what you currently own or consolidating. It will also mean hiding things that can make your room look cluttered. Take your power cords for example. In this age of technology it’s not uncommon for a nightstand to have multiple items plugged in like a …

This Is How the Royal Family Makes Their Beds

“The bed  has since become a rather old fashioned form of bedding, which is now rarely seen in hotels or homes.  Due to its large size, machine washing is not an option , they must be professionally cleaned or washed in the bath. “

In a rare glimpse into the Queen’s Royal residence at Windsor Castle, information has been circulating about what goes on in the housekeeping quarters. And it has been reported that the staff at Windsor Castle are to change the way they make Her Majesty’s bed. But how, and why?

The Castle has apparently decided to ditch the traditional eiderdown for the much more modern duvet — a decision that has apparently sparked controversy inside the house among the more traditionalist bed makers.

After all, if there’s one thing more personal and worth protecting to Brits than how to make the perfect cup of tea, it’s what constitutes a comfy bed.

The duvet began to over take the eiderdown as the go-to bed topper in 1964, when it was brought to Habitat in the UK by Terence Conran. Back then, it was called a continental quilt.

The eiderdown (eider from the eider duck and down referring to its feathers) has since become a rather old-fashioned form of bedding, which is now rarely seen in hotels or homes. But does Windsor Castle’s decision to remove the quilts from the Royal sleeping quarters really signify their end? When asked, Buckingham Palace chose not to comment on the beds in Her Majesty’s Royal homes.

Designing a Perfect Romantic Bedroom

The bedroom is more than just the place where you sleep at night. It is also a palace of love, a lair of beauty and intimacy. Decorating your bedroom with a romantic flair takes some time and consideration and of course has to entice all five of your senses. A truly romantic bedroom ought to be well thought out and entice both sexes. Romantic home accents and decor are not about fuzzy hearts, pinks and reds.”

Romantic decor in your home isn’t just about home accents that are red and pink hearts. It signifies a total style of home accessories and decor and lesser for the ‘romantic’ holidays of the year. Here are a couple suggestions on the way to make romantic bedroom decor.

Focus on the Bed

The bed ought to be the center focal point of the room for reasons besides intimate romance. Keep in mind, romantic interior decor is about the lines and detailing, not about the actual feeling. With that being said, give attention to your bed frame and bedding. Decide on fabrics and bedding that feel luxurious to you and yours. In case you are most comfortable and have that warm, fuzzy feeling from flannel sheets, then use them! Pair your bedding with a bed frame as well as other furniture in which mirror romantic ideas. A four-post bed is an excellent example of romantic bedroom furniture.

Furniture styles that tend to be perceived in a romantic light include those with French influences, Renaissance influences, hand carved pieces as well as other furniture that includes soft, flowing lines and gentle curvature.

Clutter is a distraction too. Create your room as finished as possible by keeping areas clear from nonessential things. Store them in the drawers or under the bed to be out of sight. Anyway bed skirts are created to keep these things hidden beneath the bed.

Romantic Color Palettes

The term “romantic” associates with pinks or lace however you must place it aside once you share the room with your lovers. You should be able to create a design that is not too feminine. Neutral colors could be an excellent option for a romantic situation. To make a room seem more alive, put colors like gold, blue or rich reds on your wall. Aside from neutral colors, deep colors like red, green or blue are also fantastic to make a more dramatic atmosphere.

Another important element in romantic home decorating is good lighting. The right lighting can definitely make or break a space, thus don’t forget to have plenty of enough lighting for your space. You may use the lighting formula: the sq footage of the room times 1.5 to find the wattage, then divide the wattage among the light fixtures. For example, an area that would need 150 watts may have an overhead fixture at 60 watts and two table lamps at 45 watts each. When looking at lighting, also take note of the style and shape of the fixtures you are picking out. Romantic details include warm bronze finishes, sweeping curvature or botanical accenting. The best way to incorporate a romantic light fixture into your bedroom home decor is thru the use of a chandelier.

Mood lighting such as onyx lamps, and ambient fixtures, may also help with setting up a more demure, and relaxed atmosphere in this space, without having to leave you totally in the dark.

Romance is about creating an emotion. In bedroom decorating, it’s about evoking a setting that creates that emotion. This can be done by using light and color, applied carefully through the entire space.
