The Power of Purple: How To Bring 2018’s Colour of the Year Into Your Home

The Power of Purple: How To Bring 2018’s Colour of the Year Into Your Home

Each color, even in its most unusual tone, is responsible for creating a special mood. Let’s bring this color of the year into your home’s interior.

When Pantone reveals its annual ‘colour of the year’ prediction, the design world sits up and takes note. Every December for the past 18 years, the Pantone Color Institute has forecast the shade it believes will be favoured across fashion, interiors and design over the next 12 months. And, each year, however unlikely it might seem, that prediction tends to come true.

Earlier this month, Pantone announced that its colour for 2018 was Ultra Violet, otherwise known as Pantone 18-3838 – a rich, blue-toned purple that it describes as “a spiritual, cosmic hue” and “a dramatically provocative and thoughtful shade”.

So far, it has divided opinion – and it can certainly be a tricky tone to get right in terms of interior design. But, whatever you think of it, you are likely to see a lot more of it in the coming months. Previous predictions have included 2016’s Rose Quartz, which quickly morphed into millennial pink and continues to dominate homeware collections, and this year’s Greenery, which has similarly taken root. So how did Pantone’s colour experts come to the conclusion that Ultra Violet sums up the cultural mood of 2018, and what makes it right for now?

6 Reasons Floral Patterns Will Make You Happier in Your Home

6 Reasons Floral Patterns Will Make You Happier in Your Home

Based from my experience with floral pattern,  if you are unsure about floral patterns, you can always start with a subtle one but if you really want to go all out try a bolder floral pattern that will really attract some attention.

Flowers make a bold statement and are way outside of the neutral comfort zone so many of us find ourselves in when choosing home decor. But whether you’re a current flower lover or a little flower shy, here are some reasons why florals will add happiness to your life.

1. Flowers Capture Feeling

(C) Pinterest

Design is about how you want to feel in your home. One of the main reasons I love working with florals in design is that flowers can capture a feeling in a special way.

A pale pink rose print can feel whimsical and romantic, while a vibrant tropical pattern offers a dramatic and energizing boost. A bold and contemporary print can capture a fun and playful vibe, while a giant floral mural can be oh so romantic. It’s all about finding the right floral for you.

When choosing how to incorporate floral patterns into your design, you’ll want to pick the size, color and type of flower that suits the feeling you want to capture in your space.

For relaxing rooms, try a medium-size floral in fresh and light tones. For spaces to energize and inspire, have a look at some large-scale floral inspiration in more bold and vibrant hues.

Gypsy in Your Soul: 10 Steps to a Bohemian Bedroom

Gypsy in Your Soul: 10 Steps to a Bohemian Bedroom

Bohemian decor is for those free souls who like to break rules and conventions. For those who want to express their free-spirited character then you can express it through your bedroom decors.  Let your imaginations explore with colors  but keep it classy, the adventure of your spirit and the story you want to tell!

In my teens I desperately wanted to be Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac. I wanted to wear leather with lace and shawls with long fringes and have mad hair. I also coveted the free-as-a-bird gypsy attitude she embodied — she was my bohemian dream.

Defining “bohemian” (boho) as an interior style is really attempting to label something that can’t be labeled, so dependent is it on the individual. It has elements of Shabby Chic and eclecticism, mixed with an artistic and theatrical flamboyance that has nothing to do with trends. Boho is witty, whimsical and highly reflective of the mind and lifestyle of the person who embraces it. In its way it is an antistyle, but at its heart is a love of art, color, contrasts, creativity, travel, adventure, the past and, above all, freedom from convention.

The bedroom is our most personal space — it’s where we let our hair down and our imagination loose. So if the real bohemian you is just dying to flaunt itself, the bedroom is a great place to start.

Before you start, clear your mind of what’s in vogue. Bohos are not restricted by other people’s opinions. There are no trends in boho decor — forget midcentury modern, French provincial and all the design labels. Bohos are pickers and choosers who follow their own tastes. Boho is a state of mind rather than a look — have you got the boho in you? If so, here are 10 steps to bring it out in your bedroom.
