I was in China 2 months ago, I am 6'2 tall and weight 180lbs.
It was impossible for me to find shoes that fit, I wear size 12 (46 European), but Chinese shoe stores usually have 44 European size as the biggest size and even then, the shoes remain pretty narrow in terms of width.
As for shirts, it is true that a XL size in China would come to a L size in North America.
However domestic clothing brands remain very affordable, while internationally known brands bear their international price. For example, the domestic high end brand Saint-Angelo, is of similar or at times higher quality than Hugo Boss, but at half the price and with more accessories coming standard with the purchase.
