Lushan National ParkLushan National Park is in south Jiujiang, a city in Jiangxi province. The park covers an area of 500 square kilometres and includes more than 90 soaring peaks. The highest of these, Hanyang Mountain, stands at 4,843 feet. The park also boasts a number of beautiful waterfalls and deep ravines.
The park is quite well located for tourists. It is south of China’s longest river, the Yangtze River, north of the Tengwang Pavilion, east of the railway that runs from Beijing to Kowloon and west of China’s largest freshwater lake, Poyang Lake.
The park is a perfect summer destination. It has a sub-tropical climate with moderate rainfall and an average temperate of 22 degrees. The park is home to 1720 varieties of plant life, some of them quite rare. It contains of 12 scenic areas and 37 other beautiful attractions. The main ones include Wulao Feng, Sandie Spring, Lulin Lake, the Flower Path, Ruqin Lake, Jinxiu Valley, Xianren Dong and Donglin Temple.
The Wulao Feng are five peaks in southeast Lushan. These five peaks, at a height of 4711 feet, were once only one peak. They offer a breathtaking view of Lushan in all its natural beauty.
Sandie Spring just below Wulao Feng is considered to be the most beautiful waterfall in Lushan. The three-tiered falls are a total of 509 feet high. The water in the upper portion is said to look like falling snow, in the middle like curling splashes, and at the bottom like a jade dragon running on a pond. A visit to Lushan would not be complete without a stop at Sandie Spring.
Gu Ling Street, flanked by mountains on three sides and a valley on the fourth, is located in the centre of the park. This street contains a variety of bookshops, restaurants, bars, hotels, shops, coffee houses and dance halls.
Aside from its beauty, Lushan has long been considered a religious and educational centre. Temples dedicated to five different religions can be found there.
